Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village
A fine amalgamation of traditional hospitality and beachside leisure is what best describes Manaltheeram. With close proximity to the beach, this property is where peace and calm can be summoned with ease. The cottages lie nestled amidst flourishing greenery and lend a gorgeous view of the sea ahead. Most portions of the resort, lies on the same level as the beach and is a visual treat. Ayurveda is practiced with as much seriousness as is in the sister concern Somatheeram Beach. The swimming pool in the property has the feel of an infinite pool with the sea view in such close proximity.
Manaltheeram formed a part of Somatheeram Group which pioneered the concept of Ayurveda Hospitality in Kerala, India started in 1989.
There are two types of treatment rooms. The first set is amidst the garden near the Ayurveda centre while the other set is perched higher with a large window offering uninterrupted view of the sea during treatment.
The paathi (massage table) is made of medicinal wood and prayers are offered by the uniform clad therapists before the treatment.
WiFi is available through the entire property. All rooms are equipped with modern facilities. Each room has a beach bed and a hammock in the garden space.
These hut styled cottages are reminiscent of a rural Kerala where houses were built with mud bricks and a thatched roof. The structure provides cooling on the inside owing to the thatching. These non AC cottages have a bedroom and an attached bathroom each, and is the best way to experience a Kerala lifestyle.
The Ayurveda department oversees the working and coordination of all treatments, quality and allotments at the property.
Dr. Raman is the chief consultant and has been working with the property for 15 years. Dr. Madhuri V (DAM) who has been at the property for 16 years is the chief physician. She is a treasure trove of knowledge and is a retired Joint Director of Ayurveda, Kerala.
There are 5 other medical officers who assist with cases. Usually, one senior doctor and one junior doctor consult on the first day, post which daily consultations are conducted by the junior physicians. This is followed by a discharge consultation by both the doctors together where advices and follow up plans are discussed. Medicines are also sent along. Email follow ups are largely prevalent in order to assist guests who can visit only once a year.
Yoga and Meditation
Hatha yoga is offered through the day based on expertise levels by three renowned yoga masters. The yoga room is close to the treatment centers and is a quiet and peaceful retreat. Deepu who has been working at the property for 7 years, and Jabastian and Sridevi who assist, split the time between Manaltheeram and its sister concern Somatheeram resort.
There is an open platform close to the sea which is used occasionally when the weather is favorable for meditation and yoga.
Medicines are manufactured at the production unit owned by Somatheeram group in the town. This enables doctors to correctly specify some special requirements and acquire them easily. Since the medicines are all created in the factory, the reliability is much higher.
Locally produced groceries and vegetables are acquired for most cases. There are a few vegetables and herbs that are grown within the property sand used abundantly. Milk and dairy products are acquired from the vechur cow farm present in the Somatheeram resort side.
The buffet spread whipped up by Executive Chef Jaffar and Satish are very much in sync with Ayurveda and diet food. The dishes are classified on the basis of vatha, pitha, kapha (the three doshas). Oil, spices and unhealthy additives are avoided.
Breakfast is a great spread of fruits, juices, cereal, toast, jams and a variety of Kerala breakfast items with chutneys.
Lunch is served buffet style. An assortment of soups, refreshing drinks, a couple of kerala snacks, pickles and chutneys are followed by an array of salads and various types of rices that are accompanied by vatha, pitha or kapha specific curries and dishes served in earthen pots. Innovative desserts satisfy the sweet tooth despite adhering to diet norms.
Dinner follows a similar style as the lunch however, the menu is completely different.
The restaurant is sea facing and adorned with artefacts and furniture of antique value. This quaint feeling paired with refreshing breeze from the sea, makes this nutritious meal all the more special and rejuvenating.

Right on the shore of Adimalathura beach at Chowara in Trivandrum, Manaltheeram is in eye level with the Arabian Sea. The proximity to the beach is stunning and makes this place a naturally aesthetic option. There is a passage way to the beach from the property that allows guests to visit a designated spot on the beach furnished with beach beds and umbrellas.
